The story begins in the early morning at the Wu Residence, where Wu Ding Dang dressed up for his marriage procession with a fat lady (which is arranged by his mother). On the other hand, Wu Ding Dang's wife is giving birth to her tenth child. Wu Ding Dang's mother is frustrated with her daughter-in-law for labouring nine granddaughters and no grandson for her, therefore she strongly persuaded her son to remarried. Meanwhile, Wu Ding Dang's wife, Wu Liang Shi who nevously to born a son for the family is surprised, when she delivers another baby girl. Afraid of what is happening she quickly changes the baby with another baby boy to overwhelm her mother-in-law and husband. And the baby is named Wu Shi Lang.

In order to hide from Wu Ding Dang; Wu Shi Lang lives as a boy until becomes an adult. She dresses, walks, talks and behaves like a boy and everyone in the family believes she is a boy. Her childhood companion is Li Ya Shou and she admires him a lot. Li Ya Shou is an orphan and the son of Wu Ding Dang's best friend. Li Ya Shou lives in the Wu Residence. The story also features the Lei family, a wealthy and powerful family in the town. The Lei family are, Lei Lao Hu (the matriarch), Lei Xiao Yu (a beautiful young lady), Lei Sheng Da (a good-looking and childish gentleman) and Chang Ling Lu (the housekeeper).

Li Ya Shou is attracted with the Lei family's wealth and he begins to love Lei Xiao Yu because of the Lei's wealth. On the other hand, Lei Sheng Da falls in love with Wu Shi Lang (when she dresses like girl during the night day). Both, Wu Shi Lang and Lei Sheng Da accidentally meet at the bridge, where Lei Sheng Da asks for directions, meanwhile Wu Shi Lang is upset with Li Ya Shou for calling her ghost when she wears dresses. After a long talk, both of them have a fight and eventually, Lei Sheng Da falls in love in the first fight.

The story also shows that, the Wu and Lei family are related many years ago. When Wu Ding Dang and Lei Lao Hu was teenager, they was a lover according to Lei Lao Hu, on the other side, Wu Ding Dang says Lei Lao Hu forces him to married her. Both argues about this in front of their children. This stops, when Wu Ding Dang promises Lei Lao Hu that he will talk about this later, if Lei Lao Hu let him go. During this time, Wu Liang Shi reveals the fact that Wu Shi Lang is a girl, this surprises Wu Ding Dang. The Wu family returns home and plan to move-out from the Shi Li town to Qing Mao town, in order to escape from Lei Lao Hu.

The story also shows other characters, such as Lin Chi and A Hao. Lin Chi and A Hao growing up as orphan in Qing Mao town. Although both of them love each other, but they unable to express their love. This is because Lin Chi is a poor carpenter and A Hao is a materialistic woman (she only wants to marry rich man). A Hao is a distant relative to the Wu family. She allows the Wu family to shelter at her home when the Wu family lives in Qing Mao town. During this time, the Lei family comes to the town to search for the Wu family.

The story becomes interesting, when everyone reaches Qing Mao town, because Lei Xiao Yu begins to accept Li Ya Shou, while A Hao falls in love with Lei Sheng Da. But, only Wu Shi Lang feels lonely, because her beloved (Li Ya Shou) is belonged to another woman, and from here she begins to accept Lei Sheng Da as best friend although the naive Lei Sheng Da thought that's the first move to win her heart.

The story ends with Wu Shi Lang and Li Ya Shou become lover, while Lei Xiao Yu found her true love which is Chang Ling Lu and they get married. A Hao finally realises that money is not everything and accept Lin Chi as her husband. Only the poor Lei Sheng Da has no couple, because he only wants to bless Wu Shi Lang to be happy, and to make Wu Shi Lang happy is to let her be with the one she loves the most.
